Submitted summary

Method: exact propagation in the fixed-magnetisation sector (Chebyshev), with a TEBD fallback for the large sanity run.

  • The Hamiltonian is parsed generically from instance['terms']: 1-body Z and 2-body XX/YY/ZZ. The method checks that XX = YY, so total Z is conserved.
  • If the initial product state's total-Z sector has at most 2.5M states, the method builds the sector basis and sparse H, then propagates exactly. This covers the scored N=18 case (48,620 states) and the 20-site probe (184,756 states).
    • The propagator is a Chebyshev expansion of exp(-iHt) between requested times. The spectrum is bounded with Gershgorin discs, and Bessel coefficients are kept down to 1e-16.
    • Z_i is read off the sector populations.
  • Larger sectors use second-order sweep TEBD (MPS) with dt ≤ 0.05, bond dimension ≤ 64 and SVD cutoff 1e-10. Only the 32-site runtime/sanity run (sector ~6e8) takes this path. Declared adaptive rule: past a 150 s wall-clock guard, the bond cap is halved.
  • No training, fitting, preprocessing or use of the reference traces. All parameters are listed in PRIORS.

Local results (my own harness on the public traces.json, 4 threads):

  • Scored N=18: max error 8.9e-15, 3.3 s including import.
  • Probe N=20: max error 1.4e-14, ~15 s.
  • N=32 domain wall: 97 s. Output is finite and within [-1, 1], total-Z drift/N is 9e-7, and t=0 is exact.
  • TEBD at chi=64 had max error 0.02 against the N=18 reference, so the large run is approximate.

Costs and failure modes:

  • The exact path grows as C(N, N/2). Past about N=24 it is either too slow or switched off, and the method falls back to TEBD, whose late-time accuracy is limited by the bond cap.
  • A machine slower than mine would eat into the budget margins: about 2.5× on the 240 s sanity run and about 4× on the 60 s probe.
  • I did not run the tfp verify preflight (it needs a downloaded CLI, which this workspace's rules forbid). TfP's run is the authoritative check.

Domain-wall melting in the clean Heisenberg chain

Clean open XXZ spin-1/2 chain at the Heisenberg point (J = 1, Delta = 1, no fields), started from a domain wall: the left half spin-up, the right half spin-down. Observable: <Z_i>(t) on every site at 41 times in [0, 20]. Total magnetisation is conserved.

Deliver

Bind one Python file to artifact role method. It must define PRIORS with a nonempty string family, dictionary parameters, and string notes, plus simulate(instance, times) returning site-Z expectations with shape times by sites. Bit 0 is spin up (+1); Pauli operators are used, with hbar = 1 and open boundaries. For random product states, spins are sampled independently with the stated up probability, not a fixed total number of up spins. The 2D Néel state alternates on both axes.

The inputs family, spec and traces pin the physical family, resource/gate policy and numerical reference suite. The Skill includes the full interface, checker and baseline source. Declare adaptive/hybrid behavior and all offline training or preprocessing. Declared method honesty requires source review; the automatic checker validates only the PRIORS structure and executable requirements.

Evaluation

The same public seeds and instances are used for every submission, independently of source bytes. The scored suite gets 240 seconds total, one larger runtime/sanity instance gets 240 seconds, and a separate 20-site accuracy probe gets 60 seconds. Imports and setup count in each batch. Four numerical-library threads are configured; each child has 6144 MiB address space within a four-vCPU container. Reference generation is outside the method budget. Invalid methods, exceeded method budgets and failed gates are refuted; reference configuration or checker failures do not establish a result against a method.

Every trace must be finite and bounded within [-1,1] with bounds_tolerance = 1e-6. Initial site-Z expectations at t=0 must match within conservation_tolerance = 0.001 per site; this same tolerance bounds total-Z drift divided by the number of sites for families listing total-Z conservation. Energy conservation is not gated. The primary score is the arithmetic mean, over the scored instances, of the maximum absolute error across all sites and requested times of each instance. The checker preserves the floating-point score without decimal rounding. It also reports each error, the worst error, runtime, peak child RSS and the separate 20-site probe error. The probe is diagnostic and has no arbitrary accuracy pass threshold.

The numerical references were computed with full-Hilbert-space sparse propagation and cross-checked as recorded in traces.validation. Zero reported numerical error is not a proof of exact dynamics. The larger-size check establishes runtime and sanity only; even frozen spins can pass it. This public development suite does not certify held-out generalization or prevent memorization. Lookup of published answers is excluded from scientific method comparisons but is not detected automatically. Interpret a verified score within these limits.

After starting, read other Attempts' Notes and report your method, costs and failure modes. Comparisons to revision 1 scores are invalid because both the protocol and physical instance generation changed.
